What Is Endometriosis?

You may have unbearable and inexplicable pain surrounding your menstrual cycle. If this has been ongoing and unnoticed, it is possible you may suffer from endometriosis. Many women have this painful disorder that is due to the endometrium (the womb's inner lining) begins growing outside of the uterine cavity. When you are menstruating, this tissue becomes trapped inside your body rather than being released with your cycle. Severe pelvic pain is the leading symptom of endometriosis, but you may also experience excessive bleeding (during and outside of your period), discomfort during sex, infertility, and painful bowel movements and urination. At Phase II Center for Women's Health, our team can help diagnose and provide care to improve your life. Contact our Millcreek, UT office to learn more about your options.

How Is Endometriosis Diagnosed?

You may have endometriosis as a result of genetic factors, high estrogen levels, or traumatic events to the uterus like complications during birth or C-sections. At Phase II Center for Women's Health, we can help diagnose you via a pelvic exam and some diagnostic testing that could include an MRI, ultrasound, or pelvic laparoscopy. Unfortunately, there is no cure for endometriosis, however, we can certainly discuss many options for managing the condition and relieving some of the pain. The treatment plan we decide on will vary depending on the severity of your condition. Nonsurgical treatment plans include hormone regulation and laser ablation to massage excess tissue, while surgical intervention can include hysterectomy and laparoscopy in severe cases.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Graul for the past 12 years, and I can’t speak highly enough of the care and attention she provides. From day one, she has always taken the time to truly listen and understand my concerns. What sets Dr. Graul apart is not only her deep knowledge as a gynecologist, but also her ability to communicate clearly and offer advice that is both practical and comforting. She has consistently guided me with genuine care and insight, always considering the bigger picture for ongoing support and well-being.

Dr. Graul is a gem of a gynecologist: experienced, gentle, efficient, straight-forward, and personable. I have never had such a quick and painless pelvic exam. WOW. That woman has found a cervix or two! Additionally, Dr. Graul took the time to listen to my concerns re my cycle/fertility. She collaborated with me as we devised a course of action, but still took the lead like a capable a physician should. She also placated some of my more irrational fears with simple explanations and sound science. I feel so lucky to be in her care, and I desperately hope she doesn’t retire before my childbearing years.

I saw Julie Jones after losing my former doctor in the pandemic. Julie is great! Great sense of humor and very kind, but extremely thorough and helpful. She reviewed my labs in detail with me - I've never had a doctor do that. She is treating my perimenopause with compassion and care. Love her! Office staff are all great as well, very kind and helpful.
